Experimental Driving

Experimental Driving

I started capturing driving in 2013 during a drive between Austin and Denver. In 2018 I started doing delivery in San Francisco, and in 2021 in Durham, NC -thinking every landscape unique- I began recording while doing delivery. I've been in over 10 accidents since then but I keep driving and keep making art. Though I've experienced awe and immense beauty while touring landscapes, I'm aware that by driving to experience them, I'm destroying the environment I love. Most people drive in this country for work and leisure but we're amongst the top emission producing countries in the world. With the adoption of electric vehicles we should ward off the worst effects of climate change but driving today is ruining the planet.

This is the backdrop for the work I've created in this show. Using 7 projectors, I'm creating an installation of experimental video captured while driving. This video is as meaningless as the landscape it documents but is meant to present what we consider common as a novel experience. The video was selected for its aesthetic quality to capture landscapes as a passage through space and time.

Join us March 8th, 10pm - 2am at The Fruit to experience Experimental Driving.
